UCPS CTE Presidential Scholar Nominees Chosen
Congratulations to Cuthbertson High School’s Kelsey Cardona and Weddington High School’s Juhi Jani for being selected as UCPS CTE’s Presidential Scholars Nominees for the 2023-2024 school year. These two students will compete against other nominees from across North Carolina to be chosen as a Presidential Scholar for the state. The NCDPI-CTE review committee will evaluate student nomination packets on the following criteria: academic achievement, technical competence, employability skills, ingenuity, creativity, problem-solving, and writing samples. Each state can nominate up to five students who meet the U.S. Presidential Scholars requirements.
The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964, by executive order of the President, to recognize and honor some of our nation’s most distinguished graduating high school seniors. In 1979, the program was extended to recognize students who demonstrate exceptional talent in the visual, creative and performing arts. In 2015, the program was again extended to recognize students who demonstrate ability and accomplishment in career and technical education fields. Each year, up to 161 students are named as Presidential Scholars, one of the nation’s highest honors for high school students.
