Porter Ridge Students Exposed to Business Skills
A class of sixth graders at Porter Ridge Middle School heard from John Crocker and Ron Snell from Caterpillar (CAT) construction equipment company on Thursday and their presentation was aimed at getting the students to begin thinking about their future careers. Some students said they aspire to be professional athletes while others expressed interest in becoming an architect or a computer science engineer. The presentation covered what it is like to work on a construction site and give suggestions on how students can practice to be ready for internships or job interviews in the future. They discussed the proper way to shake someone’s hand, how to introduce themselves and the importance of time management. Crocker and Snell introduced students to a mini-excavator, showing them how they are operated. Crocker and Snell both work in sales at Carolina CAT, located at 221 Morgan Mill Road in Monroe.
