*Please note: Pathways are technically courses in middle school.

Course Overview

All middle schools across Union County Public Schools, except the Health Sciences Academy at Monroe Middle School, teach Robotics courses as an introduction to the subject. The courses have different names at different schools but all cover the same basic material. The names you may see are as follows:

  • Exploring Career Decisions in STEM (AR)
  • PLTW Automation & Robotics
  • Exploring Robotics

The content in the courses is based on Project Lead the Way’s Gateway Curriculum for Automation & Robotics. Students learn about the history and impact of automation and robotics as they explore mechanical systems, energy transfer, machine automation, and computer control systems. Using the VEX Robotics® platform, students apply what they know to design and program traffic lights, robotic arms, and more.
