Program Overview
- Students will take HVAC classes at Parkwood High School.
- Students will have the opportunity to earn NCCER credentials.
- Students will have the opportunity to participate in work-based learning opportunities such as internships.
- Provides a potential opportunity to be selected for a Registered Apprenticeship Program.
- Provides hands on training to develop technical skills.
Program Qualifications
- Rising Junior or Senior.
- Students must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
- Students must be eligible to take the courses outlined in the Pre-Apprenticeship standards.
- Students enrolled in related instructional classes must maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher.
Coursework
Coursework during the Pre-Apprenticeship Program will follow the NCCER curriculum. Some of the coursework may include:
- Understanding heating and cooling systems
- Basic copper and plastic piping practices
- Soldering and brazing
- Basic carbon steel piping practices
- Basic electricity
- Compressors
- Heat pumps
- Basic maintenance
More Information
- Completion of the Pre-Apprenticeship program allows students the opportunity to be selected into the Registered Apprenticeship program in partnership with South Piedmont Community College (SPCC) or other industry partners.
- The Registered Apprenticeship Program through SPCC or another industry partner allows students to work in the industry and further their education in the field.
