Forest Hills Students Receive PLATINUM Workkeys Score
Two Forest Hills High School Seniors, Christian Kirby and Ivan Melchor-Garcia, earned a Platinum score for their National ACT Workkeys Exam! Less than 1% nationwide of high school seniors taking the exam achieves Platinum.
Workkeys measures foundational skills required for success in the workplace. An average is obtained from three different exams: Applied Mathematics, Graphic Literacy, and Workplace Documents. Scores are awarded at four levels-Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze.
Christian and Ivan will be able to add their Platinum score to resumes or job applications to show employers that they possess the top skills. All FHHS students who tested this spring can submit their scores for college applications, or compare their score to those needed in a national data base of over 20,000 jobs!
Ivan plans to attend Central Piedmont Community College then transfer to UNC Appalachian to study real estate. Ivan’s inspiration is his father who owns several residential properties. “My father wants us to be partners.” Ivan feels the Drafting and Project Lead the Way Engineering courses he took at Forest Hills are strong foundations to pursue his real estate development goals.
Christian will attend UNC Appalachian in the fall to study nursing. Christian’s grandmother has been his inspiration saying, “She was the first person in my family to go to college and I admire what she has done in her career.” His Health Science teacher, Pam Lanier, remembers, “He has a superior work ethic.” She added that because Christian is a “very kind and respectful young man” he is well suited for patient care.
