Forest Hills High School FCS teacher, Dawn Jordan, selected to provide professional development instructional videos for ACTE CareerTech Vision Conference
For the 2020 Summer Conference, Family and Consumer Sciences teacher, Mrs. Dawn Jordan, had volunteered to submit two videos for the virtual professional development sessions. Because Jordan’s videos were so well received throughout the state of North Carolina, she was recently advised that her videos had been selected to be used in the Family and Consumer Sciences Best Practices Session at the 2020 ACTE Virtual CareerTech Vision Conference in December!
The Association for Career and Technical Education provides educational leadership in developing a competitive workforce. ACTE strives to empower educators to deliver high quality CTE programs that ensure all students are positioned for career success.
The FCS Best Practices session features FCS educators presenting their innovative practices to fellow teachers from around the country. Jordan created two videos: Student Engagement and Promoting Your Class. In the latter video Jordan exhibited her enthusiasm as she advised, “To obtain a credential is phenomenal! It is awesome! That is amazing! That makes me excited and fuels the passion I have for teaching my FCS course. So it’s important that we understand how to market it to students.”
Mrs. Jordan was approached by Robert Van Dyke, Family and Consumer Sciences Education Consultant for the NC Department of Public Instruction, Career & Technical Education. Van Dyke complimented Jordan by saying the videos she created for the 2020 CTE Summer Conference Best Practice session “were well done and helped a lot of teachers.”
