FHHS’ Semones Selected as UCPS Presidential Scholar Nominee for 2020

Dusty Ray Semones

UCPS selected Forest Hills High School Senior, Dusty Semones, as the 2020 Career and Technical Education Presidential Scholar nominee.

CTE Director Brian Davis presented a plaque to Dusty and said, “This is the highest honor and achievement for a CTE student.”

CTE teachers throughout UCPS submitted nominees based on a student earning 3 credits in a CTE Cluster area; Career and Technical Student Organization affiliation, offices held, and competitive events participation. A CTE panel then reviews how the nominees demonstrate technical competence, employability skills and ingenuity, creativity, and problem solving.

Dusty said, “Wow, I had no idea I was nominated! This is a surprise and I appreciate it very much! Thank you!” Dusty was nominated by Forest Hills High School Agriculture teachers, Jonathan Deese and Brooke Phipps. Upon graduation, he plans to attend Tulsa Welding School in Jacksonville, Florida.

The NC Department of Public Instruction’s Commission on Presidential Scholars will select semifinalists to apply in mid-January 2021. Finalists will be announced at the beginning of May 2021. If selected, Dusty will receive the Presidential Scholars Medallion at a ceremony in Washington, D.C.
