Congratulations to CTE Teacher of the Year Finalist Michael Hicks from Cuthbertson High
Mr. Michael Hicks is a business and marketing teacher at Cuthbertson High School. He currently teaches Entrepreneurship I, Financial Planning I, and Business Essentials. He is also the lead advisor of the Cuthbertson High DECA Club as well as an assistant track and field coach at the Cuthbertson High and Middle Schools. This year will mark 18 years as a CTE business and marketing education teacher. He has been at Cuthbertson High School since the fall of 2017.
Before deciding to become a teacher, Mr. Hicks worked as a movie theater manager, human resource specialist, and as a data analyst for a consulting company, and now has truly found his life’s calling and passion as a teacher!
Mr. Hicks says that he tries his best to prepare students for the ‘real world’, and they have told him over the years that his guidance on financial and career planning truly made an impact on them and helped them prepare for a rewarding life after high school.
“I am so blessed to have come in contact with so many wonderful, remarkable students in my career, and deeply humbled that they felt I truly made a difference in their lives! I wholeheartedly believe I have the best career in the world!”
Mr. Hicks also goes on to say that he works in the best school system in NC, UCPS.
“The support CTE Central Office gives me and our DECA Club is amazing! I am also so fortunate to work with the ‘rock star’ teachers at Cuthbertson who are phenomenal in their own right”.
Mr. Hicks lives in Indian Trail with his wife, Amy, and stepdaughter, Erin. He also has 2 sons, Carson, 23, and Connor, 17.
