Agriculture affects each of us every day. In fact, while utilizing 46% of our landmass, Agriculture is Union County’s second largest industry. And while fresh fruits and vegetables thrive here, we lead our state in the production of wheat and soybeans. Union County ranks among the top 10 counties in North Carolina to raise turkeys, broiler chickens, grain crops, nursery plants and cattle.

Capitalizing on an increasing agribusiness strategy, Forest Hills High School now features the Ag Tech Academy to include 5 pathways:

  • Animal Science/Pre-Vet
  • Sustainable Plant Systems
  • Agricultural Mechanical Skills
  • Farm to Table
  • Agricultural Business

As Agriculture is increasingly becoming more high tech, Union County is investing in job creation and wage growth in this industry. In addition, partnerships with Wingate University and South Piedmont Community College will prepare any UCPS graduate for their new concentrations in Food Systems or Agribusiness.
