Teach UCPS (Teaching as a Profession) Pre-Apprenticeship
Program Overview
- Students will take Teach as a Profession courses at Weddington High School or Porter Ridge High School, or EDU classes through Career & College Promise (CCP) at South Piedmont Community College (SPCC).

- Teach as a Profession II
- Teach as a Profession III – Field Experience
- OR
- EDU 187 (CCP at SPCC)
- EDU 216 (CCP at SPCC)
- Complete the 3-course pathway may articulate up to 7 credits with a SPCC, Wingate University or other partnering institution
Program Qualifications
- Students may be registered with Apprenticeship N.C. after the age of 16.
- Student must submit three teacher endorsement letters
- Students must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
- Student must register as a UCPS Teacher Pre-Apprentice
More Information
- Upon graduation, students must have registered as a UCPS Teacher Pre-Apprentice to pursue a Teacher Preparation Associates degree at SPCC.
- Students can then attend Wingate University to complete their Bachelor’s degree in education through the Road to Wingate Scholarship program.
- Students may expand apprenticeship/internship/field experiences by:

- Participating in CTE Internship Programs in UCPS schools
- Lesson planning with UCPS staff
- Attend planning meetings on teacher workdays
- Opportunity to teach small or whole group lessons
