On Tuesday, March 18th, Forest Hills HS students Kaitlyn Grissom,& Joseph Baumer won 1st place at the Greater Charlotte Auto Dealers Auto Competition at the Charlotte Motor Speedway winning $9750 in scholarships each. Students David Wiles, Nathaniel Helms, Dylan Conover also finished in 3rd place winning $1000 each in scholarships. These teams beat out over 20 other teams from around the Charlotte area. Congratulations to these students, their teachers Mr. Books and Mr. Mills, and FHHS!
For the competition, students were required to do a minimum of 20 hours of training at a sponsoring dealership to learn factory service information and to use the scan tool. They had to take the student ASE test for Electrical, Brakes, and MLR. Then, during the competition, they had 2 interviews with local dealers and had to present their resumes. Students had a total of two hours to diagnose two major faults and complete a 27 point inspection. The 27 point inspection normally has several common issues to resolve, like low washer fluid or damaged wiper blades, on top of the major faults. While doing this, the students also had to complete a thorough write up in Alldata service manager to include the 3 C’s: Concern, Cause , & Correction.
